Who owns CSBN News, and how it’s funded.
We publish this page because readers deserve to know who is paying for the journalism they read, and what rules the newsroom operates under.
Ownership
Independently owned and operated. CSBN News is not owned by a political party, a foreign government, or a publicly-traded media conglomerate. There are no undisclosed investors with editorial influence over the newsroom.
- Ownership structure: independent, US-based.
- Relaunched under current editorial leadership: May 2026.
- Editor-in-Chief reports directly to the owner. No intermediate management layer.
How we make money
Display advertising
Our primary revenue at launch is display advertising shown alongside articles. Ads are visually distinct from editorial content, and ad placements have no influence on what we cover.
Reader subscriptions
We may add reader subscriptions in the future. If we do, paid readers will receive newsletter benefits and supporter recognition. Editorial coverage will not change based on subscriber status.
What we don't do
We don't accept paid placements, sponsored editorial, or pay-to-play coverage. Sponsored content, when present, is clearly labelled and produced separately from the newsroom.
Editorial independence
The newsroom operates independently of the business side. Advertisers, partners, and the publication’s owner do not see articles before publication and have no influence over editorial decisions. We will cover the companies that advertise with us, including critically, when the story warrants it.
Conflicts of interest
Every member of the newsroom is bound by a written conflicts policy. Where a conflict cannot be avoided, we disclose it in the article itself.
- Staff disclose any direct financial holding in a company before covering it.
- Reporters do not cover former employers for 24 months after leaving them.
- Family relationships with subjects of coverage are disclosed and may lead to reassignment.
- Gifts above token value are declined or returned.
Transparency reports
Once a year we will publish a transparency report covering newsroom headcount, corrections issued, takedown requests received, and a summary of the revenue mix. The first report is scheduled for January 2027 and will be linked from this page.
