These are the standards CSBN News journalists follow. They are public so that readers can hold us to them.
Sourcing. We attribute non-trivial claims to a named source whenever possible. Where we rely on a single source, we say so. We use anonymous sources only when their identity would put them at risk and when the information they share is verifiable through additional reporting.
Verification. Editors review every article before publication. For breaking news, we update the article publicly as facts evolve, with a visible "Updated" timestamp and, where the original framing was wrong, a Correction (see below).
Conflicts of interest. Reporters disclose any financial, personal, or professional interest in a story they cover. Where a conflict cannot be removed, the story is reassigned. We do not accept payment, gifts, or free access in exchange for coverage.
Editorial process. Every published article has a named editor accountable for its accuracy, framing, and judgment. Reporters develop stories from primary sources, expert interviews, and original research. Editors review every article before publication and are responsible for the final form.
Mistakes. We make them. When we do, we say so plainly under our Corrections Policy.
